The Future of Water Rescue
Getting the rope bag accurately to the victim has been the bane of rescuers over the years. A rope bag is thrown to a victim with the hope of landing an accurate throw which is mostly never the case due to misjudging the distance. Subsequent throws get better with accuracy but the chances of survival of the victim decreases on every missed throw.
The solution to the problem of inaccurate throws is the Rescue Bunny™. This is the release of a water rescue bag from a UAV to a drowning victim while a lifeline is attached to the Rescue Bunny, a trademarked and patented land-based lifeline self-reeling device that retrieves the victim and lifeline back to safety and thus protecting the rescuer from harm if the rescuer had to go get the victim by boat or swimming.
The use of the Rescue Bunny™ to charge cellphones and work PDAs, battery ports on ocean going vessels will prevent shipboard fires from unattended phone charging onboard vessels as warned by the US Coast Guard recently (see reference 6). It maintains a load-force equilibrium thereby enhancing buoyance of the victim while being retrieved to safety. Its added ability to pump air into lifejackets, life rafts and tires and a search and rescue TAC advances the technological development of the water rescue industry.
The Rescue Bunny™ will be the only portable self-reeling lifeline device in the USA designed for safe victim retrieval in open water. The Rescue Bunny™ project includes an annual pre-hurricane season community outreach program and in partnership with FIREFEST, an annual fire festival of the Val Jhanke Training facility for firefighters in Houston every year end.
